Sean Avery Rips the Maple Leafs With Bold Statement
The controversial Sean Avery retired from professional hockey in 2012. Even in retirement, it seems he still his talent for stirring things up.
Avery mentionned on Leafs Morning Take that if given just 8 weeks, he could get himself ready to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and not only that, he believed he could outperform the team's recent signing,
Ryan Reaves.

"I could make the Leafs. I'm probably in the best shape of my life... I would give that dressing room a run for their money. Could I get my timing in 5 weeks to be ready for training camp? No, but if they knew that I was on the team and it was like 'ok, he needs 8 weeks', then I would be ready and I would be much more effective than Ryan Reaves."
Could Avery Come Back in the NHL?
Avery argues that his excellent physical condition, thanks to his training in Jiu Jitsu and remaining active in his retirement, is the reason he believes he could make the Leafs' roster.
While Avery has never been shy about expressing his opinions, some may consider this claim a bit far-fetched. Hockey has evolved since Avery left the game in 2012. It's now faster-paced, and players are bigger and stronger than ever before.
While it's understandable that Avery has confidence in his abilities, he's now 43 years old, and the NHL is no place for the faint of heart. As much as fans might love to see him back on the ice, the reality is that his best days in the NHL are behind him. Perhaps he can find some competitive outlets in the old-timers leagues to keep his passion for the game alive.
