Crucial Contract Talks: Nylander's Future Hangs in the Balance
Brad Treliving, as the new General Manager of the Leafs, is contemplating his first significant action - extending the contract of core member William Nylander.
The preliminary standpoints of both parties on the possible salary are now evident.
Nylander's Expectation: No Less than $8 Million
According to Chris Johnston's reports, Nylander and the Leafs are currently divided by a gap of approximately $1.5-million in their negotiations. The final agreement, however, is anticipated to be around $9-million.

"Toronto's offer to Nylander probably "starts with an 8" while Nylander's expectation likely starts between 9 and 9.5. Would an 8-year contract keep it under $9M?,"
he questions.
In the meantime, the New Jersey Devils have provided a potential benchmark, having signed Jesper Bratt to an 8-year, $63-million deal earlier today. This contract offers an average annual value of $7.875-million.
Even though Nylander's skills outshine Bratt's, this type of contract sets an excellent foundation for Toronto's negotiations with Nylander.
Nylander's Future with Toronto
While the final outcome of these negotiations is yet to be seen, the indicators strongly suggest a future for Nylander in Toronto.
